This course fulfills the requirements of the South African Code of Maritime Qualifications, the Merchant Shipping (Training and Certification) Regulations, 1999, and is examined by SAMSA at our Training School. The course is accredited by SAMSA and exceeds the requirements of section A-II/4 OF STCW-95. Certificates are issued to successful candidates on completion.
REQUIREMENTS: Age : Must be 18 years or older. Must produce proof of having served in a deck capacity for a period of not less than 18 months, unless the candidate has trained within an accelerated training scheme. At least half of the period must have been on ships over 100 gross tonnes. Certificates : Must produce Steering, First Aid at Sea, Fire Fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Ordinary Seaman certificates.
MEDICAL FITNESS: Must produce a medical certificate stating that the candidate was examined in terms of Marine Notice No. 1 of 1992. Eye Sight : Must produce a SAMSA Colour and Form Vision Test certificate which shows a pass date within 6 months of the AB examination at the end of this course.
ADDITIONAL: Must produce proof of identity (on the 1st day of the course), a Familiarisation Certificate, an approved Training Record Book (if training commenced after 1 January 1999) and 2 passport size black & white photos. Candidates must attend all practical training sessions with full personal protective equipment (PPE), i.e. overalls and safety boots. Unicorn may supplied goggles, hardhats and gloves, to be returned and used by subsequent classes.

A minimum of 3 candidates are required for the course and the fee includes notes, stationery, cordage, wire rope, refreshments, light lunch and sundry materials.
