Before joining passenger ships and other vessels engaged on long voyages, all non-seafaring staff require basic familiarisation training as outlined in the STCW Code, Section A-VI/1 & A-V/3 (paragraphs 1,2,3&4). This course is accredited by SAMSA and includes personal survival techniques, elementary first aid and fire fighting actions, emergency procedures and occupational safety on board.
REQUIREMENTS: Candidates are required to bring with them their identity document, and a swimming costume and towel for the practical survival module. On completion, successful candidates will be issued with a booklet summarising the salient points covered and a certificate which is numbered for reference. Accommodation and airport transfers can be arranged at an additional cost if required. A minimum of six candidates are required but special arrangements can be made for less than this number.
