This course fulfills the requirements of the South African Code of Maritime Qualifications, the Merchant Shipping (Training and Certification) Regulations, 1999, and is examined by SAMSA at our Training Centre. The course is accredited by SAMSA and exceeds the requirements of Section A-III/4 of STCW-95. Certificates are issued to successful candidates on completion.
REQUIREMENTS: Age : Must be 18 years or older. Certificates : Must produce First Aid at Sea, Fire Fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Engine Room Wiper certificates.
SEATIME: Must produce proof of having serving in an engine room capacity for a period of not less 18 months, unless the candidate has trained within an accelerated training scheme. At least half of the period must have been served on ships over 100 gross tonnes.
MEDICAL FITNESS: Must produce a medical certificate stating that the candidate was examined in terms of Marine Notice No. 1 of 1992.
ADDITIONAL: Must produce proof of identity (on the 1st day of the course), a Familiarisation Certificate, an approved Training Record Book (if training commenced after 1 January 1999) and 2 passport size black & white photos. Candidates must attend all practical training sessions with full personal protective equipment (PPE), i.e. overalls and safety boots. Unicorn may supplied goggles, hardhats and gloves, to be returned and used by subsequent classes.
DURATION: 2 weeks
A minimum of 3 candidates are required for the course and the fee includes notes, stationary, refreshments, light lunch, writing and sundry materials, and lectures by a certificated Chief Engineer.
